Hands-on learning and team work

KiteSteam offers hands-on STEAM learning in a collaborative team environment. We believe in “Play based learning”. Children expand their imagination by building, tinkering with robotics, exploring engineering and programing software. Making the sometimes complicated world of Science, Technology, Math and Engineering, easy and fun to explore as they play, learn and reiterate.

Curriculum suited for children in grades: Kindergarten to 8th.

Up to 10 children per session.

Details of curriculum offered during School Year Classes

CourseThe Challenge Key Principles will Learn
Lego RoboticsThe class is inspired by the show “LEGO Masters”. Teams of 2 students will be building LEGO projects from a vast array of bricks and parts to meet both creative and practical goals set by the challenge for a particular class. This class is intended for new kids, in one group. Kids who have taken a semester with KiteSteam, would be grouped together.Concept design from 2D to 3D. Engineering concepts for the structural build. Programming the build using Scratch.
Lego Robotics uses LEGOs and electronic pieces like motors, sensors, light cube, bluetooth hub to give life to the builds.
Advanced Robotics – Engineers at WorkThis is an advanced Robotics class, designed for students who had a semester with KiteSteam Lego Robotics. Kids will be challenged with complex technic LEGO and VEX builds. We will be suing only word block programming.Advanced technic and robotics build concepts. Word block programming to make your builds complete tasks & missions.
Family Robot TimeThis is a child (Gr K-5) + parent/guardian class, which gives both of you an opportunity to explore the world of “Lego Robotics” from the eyes of a child and the helping hands of a parent. Team up with your child to build LEGO projects to achieve goals set for a particular class.
Spend building time with your child, and have fun!!!
You will venture into the world of LEGO Robotics, which incorporates LEGO brand electronic pieces like motors, sensors, light cube, bluetooth hub and programming to give life to the builds.
KiteSteam SamplerThis is a group of 8 classes where we will explore 3 class of Lego Robotics, 3 class of Vex Robotics and 2 class of Intro to 3D Printing. Idea is to expose your child to a variety of projects and see what they would like to dive into for further explorationExposure to the world of Robotics and 3D Printing.
FIRST Lego League (FLL) ExploreIn FLL Explore, teams of students in Grade 1-4 focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design and code and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by a LEGO Education robot.Children will learn coding, building, story telling and create their Innovation project, around the topic of “Masterpiece”.
FIRST Lego League (FLL) ChallengeFriendly competition is at the heart of FLL Challenge, as teams of students in Grade 7-8 engage in research, problem-solving, coding and engineering – building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. As part of Challenge, teams also participate in a research project to identify and solve a relevant real-world problem.Children will learn coding, building, story telling and create their Innovation project, around the topic of “Masterpiece”.

Build & Take Your Own RobotThis class is for your budding Artists and Engineers, who will build their own robots to execute a given task from basic engineering blocks like motors, LEDs and sensors. This will not use LEGO parts, but actual motors, sensors, gears, and of course arts and crafts.
Electronic Projects using ArduinoLearning the Arduino microcontroller and using it’s mighty power to create DIY projects. You will be learning about electronic components like resistors, breadboards, switches, LED, microcontroller; learn to build, connect and program for your project.
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Season PrepFLL Season starts late Aug, and competitions starts in late Oct. This session will give the children an overview and understanding of an FLL Challenge season. Using previous season game mats, we will be simulating the FLL Robot game experience by attempting missions to maximize scoring. Children will learn coding, strategy for robot games, executing missions and create their Innovation project.

We are excited to offer a new way to inspire STEAM learning in a team and showcase environment with our FIRST LEGO League program.

This program is offered from 1st through 8th graders. First Lego League (FLL) is in 110+ Countries and over 67,000 teams.

For our FLL Explore teams, we will coach up to 6 participants through the season’s challenge with all work done during class time, research for the Innovation Project will also be done individually. Our goal is to deliver an entry that would then be showcased in December here in New Jersey, as well an entry to your local Science Fair.

For our FLL Challenge teams, we will coach up to 10 participants through the season’s challenge. This will require individual research, team work during and after class time, to get the best learning experience. The team will enter regional North New Jersey competitions, and can advance ahead on their performance.

Costs include materials, classes, registration and final showcase/competition event entry fee which will be set by end of October by FIRST LEGO League.
